If you have the same hobbies as your penpal, you can bring it up easily in your second or third letter. But what else do you write about? Here are some hints.

The easiest subjects to talk about are your schools or companies, the towns you live in, your favorite stars, movies and something like those. But if you always write about them, both your penpal and you will feel them dull sooner or later.

Ask at least one question every time. If your penpal have a certain thing to write about,it's easy for him/her to answer your mail. E-mails are generally shorter than snail mails but written much more frequently. So you may run out of things to write if you make an e-mail too long.

In general, snail mail friends can make their friendship last longer than e-mail friends. If you like to keep in touch with your penpal long, letters by air are the better.

If you write letters by hand, save the copies of your letters.

Be careful of using '.....'. Let me take an example:if you received two e-mails with the subject 'Hi! How are you?' and 'Hi............ How are you.......?', which would you be inspired to read and answer ?

Probably the former. Using '........' instead of a period broadens your expressions in mails, of course, but if you use it meaninglessly or unproperly, you might make a negative impression.

The best way to learn to write good letters is reading letters from your penpals, especially those with good skills for writing letters.
